Artists who are interested in creating encaustic-like effects but do not want invest in the wide array of materials and a ventilating system used for encaustics may find using acrylic gels and mediums a good substitute. We will make our own “beeswax” solutions and explore how these mixtures can help in creating interesting and varied textures, layers and mixed media effects. These mixtures are also helpful in reclaiming old or “failed” paintings by providing a new layer, a new look.
