A weekly discussion series conceived and moderated by Diana Barrett, Ph.D., and Jake H. Davis, Ph.D.
Join us as we take the conversation in a new direction. We will start with a meaningful topic and then turn inwards to explore the emotions that motivate speech and action. Sometimes we will take a break from talking altogether and really be quiet for a moment.
This week’s topic is civility, exploring how a close-knit community can stifle dissent and how we can move beyond division.
About our guests: Carole Vandal is an enrolled member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head-Aquinnah, a retired teacher, principal, biologist, water protector, and a Native American flute player and singer. Daniel Goleman is an internationally known psychologist. He is the author of Emotional Intelligence and books on topics including self-deception, creativity, transparency, meditation, social and emotional learning, ecoliteracy, and the ecological crisis. Ismail Samad, as a chef and advocate for closed-loop food systems and resilient communities, is co-founder of the Gleanery in Putney, Vermont, a director at Common Wealth Kitchen Incubator, and played a pivotal role in Daily Table, a food market in Dorchester, Mass. Alan Dershowitz is a lawyer and former professor at Harvard Law School, where he taught for 50 years. A scholar of constitutional and criminal law, he is also a political commentator, prolific author, and one of the most outspoken American defenders of civil liberties.
