Summer Symposium

Through these ambitious days of programming, we seek to gather, extend narratives and increase rigor. Martha’s Vineyard sees a seasonal, young black community both very privileged and also very much in need: of belonging, safety and fun. But there’s another thing that makes this community stand out, they are fiercely interested in the embodying a social avant garde, especially where style and justice are concerned. It’s the reason the Island attracts prominent figures in the African American community, those who do considerate and creative work. A younger, larger generation is increasing in buying power at the very same moment that they are looking for new avenues of social and political engagement. Summer Symposium is a precision curated event that is tailored to their needs. Consisting of a Symposium, day of speakers, film festival, art show and celebration.
