In this workshop, local designer Angela Sison (she/her) will lead students through the basics of Sashiko mending practice. All participants will receive a hand-made sewing kit and use their new tools and knowledge to creatively repair one of their own beloved garments under Ms. Sison’s direct guidance. Farmers and other folks whose a/vocation is hard on their favorite clothing are especially encouraged to bring in their well-worn pieces.
Each participant will receive an individual consultation on how best to mend one garment considering the fabric, fiber, thread, color, lines, techniques and more. Participants will leave the workshop with a sewing kit, a mended garment and a new skill. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and avid sewers who would like to learn a new trick or two specific to repair.
