Each year around the vernal and autumnal equinox we approach a transition of the seasons. As nature prepares for the change, we can clear our bodies of any residue of the past 6 months. Spring is an especially important time to rid the body of all the heaviness of winter and reinvigorate our bodies for the warmth ahead. There are many types of cleanses but the most tried, true and safe one is one that has been around for 5,000 years with the practice of Ayurveda, the kitchari cleanse.

A simple meal of basmati rice with mung beans and digestive spices is eaten for all meals every day for a week, giving the entire body’s systems time to clean and repair. The benefits are many– it is most well known to improve digestion, sleep and overall vitality. Although this is a gentle cleanse, it can be hard to stick to such a monotonous routine on one’s own. As a group we will prepare our first kitchari meal with sauteed greens. We will send you off with some recipe variations for the week and check back in mid-week to see how everyone is feeling. We will break the cleanse together on the following Thursday by preparing a light healthy and energetically balanced meal with some delicious farm ingredients.
