December’s film I Am Love (Io sono l'amore) from 2009 is a romantic drama from Italian director Luca Guadagnino. With expert, understated performances (particularly Tilda Swinton as the matriarch of a wealthy Milanese family), the director’s elegant visual style tells a story that could easily have veered off into a soap opera.
