Live Music: Chatham Baroque

The Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society presents Chatham Baroque, an ensemble that has toured the United States as well as South America, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, and Canada. The New York Times praised their “colorful virtuosity”; the Washington Post called them “musically impeccable”; and the Chicago Tribune applauded, “a splendid period-instruments ensemble.”

Their program of ‘Art of the Trio” will include music from the Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical periods, with unique instrumentation to match:  to violin and baroque guitar, Chatham Baroque adds the period instruments of viola da gamba, combining  qualities of both guitar and cello, and a theorbo  –a large lute with the neck extended to carry long bass strings.
