Tracy Sharples was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the summer of 2016. He had radiation treatment 5 days a week for 5 weeks in Falmouth. When he went for a follow-up, he learned the treatment had not worked and had actually metastasized all throughout his bones including his spine and skull. He went to the Dana Farber Institute where they discussed a treatment plan, which included chemotherapy. He had 6 rounds of chemo every three weeks and was lucky enough to have it here on the Island. The chemo worked and he has been told that he should stay in remission for 1-3 years before it surfaced again. During this time, he was put on full disability and told he can no longer perform any physical labor. This led him and his wife to give up their Katama Bay oyster farm that they have owned since 2005. Before that, he was a commercial fisherman since the early 90’s.
The fundraiser is to help the Sharples family with some of the expenses they have accumulated along the way and give them some relief.
We will be raffling off numerous items that have been generously donated, including an authentic signed Tom Brady jersey, use of a private boathouse in Edgartown harbor, round trip Cape Air tickets for two to Boston, a sunset harbor cruise, many restaurant gift certificates, and much more.
