Learn the techniques needed to turn feathers and tinsel into an irresistible combination from some of the Island's most experienced fly rod anglers.
The weekly sessions organized by renowned Island fly fisherman Cooper (Coop) Gilkes provide a welcome off-season refuge for becalmed anglers waiting for spring. Participants of all skill levels follow the lead of one tier who provides instruction about how he or she ties a specific fly (See Vineyard Gazette, March 5, 2018, “Waiting for the First Cast, Flyfishermen Hone Their Craft”).
The schedule (subject to change) is Jan. 24, Coop (basics); Jan. 31, Brice Contessa (classic Lefty’s Deceiver); Feb. 7, Coop (sand eel); Feb. 14, Coop (cinder worm); Feb. 21, Joe Rogers (squid variant); Feb. 28, Cooper Fersen (surf candy epoxy minnow), March 7, Rob Morrison (Clouser minnow); March 14, Liz Packer (Ray’s fly or flatwing); March 21, Rob Morrison (knot tying, rigging); March 28, Jamie Boyle (TBA); April 4, (TBA).
