About this Event
View mapStop by North Water Gallery, Edgartown to view new work by Carol Maguire and Jim Holland.
Jim Holland visited Cape Cod on college road trips with friends, and felt inspired to paint scenes he encountered there. He started refining the elements that would become his style, marked by stripped-down realistic depiction and a sense of solitude often found in the work of Edward Hopper—an artist for whom Jim has had lifelong admiration. The enduring themes in Holland’s paintings are the light and space near the ocean. His work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast and is included in numerous private and institutional collections in the United States and Europe.
Carol Maguire is an oil painter from the Philadelphia area. She studied painting and art history at the Sorbonne in Paris, Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Inspired by a love for color, textiles and gardening, her work focuses on objects that surround her daily life. Carol is a colorist, known for her exquisite color combinations, and applies this to her still life, landscape paintings. Luscious, thick and spontaneous, she achieves a seemingly natural relationship between texture and color to easily draw the eye. Her use of the palette knife adds a unique abstract quality.
