The life of Anne P. Jennings, the first African American nurse at Hartford Hospital will be celebrated and a plaque placed on her home in the Highlands area of Oak Bluffs.
The dedication of her home will be celebrated in the Oak Bluffs community by a writing project in the 5th and 6th grades of Oak Bluffs school where students will describe who they would seek to honor and why through a variety of media. The student work will be published as a booklet to be distributed at the dedication ceremony and it will be available at the Oak Bluffs library.
On the day of the dedication, candles will be lit to honor all those whose names have been chosen by their community.
