Discover The Trustees Martha’s Vineyard’s newest reservation- The Brickyard.
In the 1860s, brick workers mined the north shore’s rocky landscape for clay. Using Island-harvested trees and the waters of Roaring Brook to power their operation, over 800,000 bricks a year were shipped off-island to be used in contruction projects from Boston to Newport to New York.
Spend your Sunday afternoon exploring the historic remnants of the brickworks, including its iconic 45-foot chimney and 10-foot high cut-stone walls during this special open-house. Martha’s Vineyard Stewardship Manager David Bouck and Islands Director Sam Hart will be on-site to answer questions and take a look back in time.
Masks and physical distancing at all times. Registration required for special trail map; trail head and parking located at Menemsha Hills Reservation.
