Part of the Chilmark Library’s “The Book,” explorations on bookmaking from 1440 to the present. In this class learn new bookbinding projects with popular teacher Laurel Rogers: three simple, hand-sewn books:
Class #1 March 31: Folded Pocket Accordion
This is a simple folded paper project where we take a piece of paper and turn it into an accordion book with pockets.
Class #2 April 7: Japanese Stab Binding
This is a traditional Japanese sewn binding technique. This book binding is a useful way to bind together single sheets. You will learn the most basic version and then you can explore more complex sewing patterns.
Class #3 April 14: French Link Stitch
French link stitch is an exposed spine sewing where the pages open flat.
