Bookbinding by Hand: A Class in Five Sessions with Laurel Rogers of Passionato Books.

Part of the Chilmark Library’s “The Book,” explorations on bookmaking from 1440 to the present. In this class learn the basics of bookbinding and make 5 simple, hand-sewn books, perfect for gift giving or journaling in the New Year:

1. Pamphlet stitch, 3 hole and 5 hole, and a ribbon bound book.
2. Pamphlet stitch plus:
    Chain stitch on small and larger books.
    String of pearls stitch.
3.  Accordion books:
     2-4-8 and 3-6-12.
4.  Single sheet book or sometimes called a slit book.
5. Flutter book (a Japanese structure and similar to accordion.)
