Author Holly Fitzgerald presents her latest book, Ruthless River; Love and Survival by Raft on the Amazon’s Relentless Madre De Dios. Ms. Fitzgerald, born in Seattle, raised in New Haven, CT now residing in South Dartmouth, MA, has worked as a counselor and teacher. Ruthless River is a stunning debut novel about her real-life survival story of being lost in the Amazon rainforest. As newlyweds in 1972 Ms. Fitzgerald and her husband set out on a trip of a lifetime- backpacking around the world. Five months into this romantic honeymoon the trip was cut short when their plane crashed in the jungles of Peru. The couple survived by building a raft and floating out into the piranha and caiman filled waters of the Madre De Dios River, without food or means of navigation, sailing down the river in hopes of finding civilization. This story of adventure and survival came out August of 2017 and Outside Magazine named it the Best Survival Book on its list of Best Books for 2017. This book has received praise from the NYT and the Boston Globe and is currently in development to become a movie.
