A drop spindle twists fiber into yarn using gravity. Practiced for thousands of years, drop spinning is perfect for the avid knitter or crocheter looking to deepen their practice, or the fiber newbie eager to begin at the source.
Join fiber artist and educator Prin Van Gulden (she/her) for two virtual drop spinning classes. Understand how to recognize fiber’s staple, crimp, and quality and learn how to draft, spin, and set your own yarn. With winter fast approaching, now is the time to develop a homestead skill that incorporates rest, reflective movement, and creative engagement.
Participants will receive a beginning spinning kit prior to the course date (local pick-up or by mail) which includes a wooden Ashford drop spindle with hook, lead yard, and 3 oz of washed and milled American Tunis wool from Slough Farm’s very own heritage flock. All are yours to keep.
