E. Dolores Johnson, a Cambridge author, is the daughter of a black father and white mother who married 25 years before the Supreme Court overturned laws banning interracial marriage in the Loving v. Virginia decision. Their inspiring and emotional family story is told in Say I’m Dead, A Family Memoir of Race, Secrets, and Love. It has received this year’s Outstanding Literary Award from the National Association of Black Journalists, in addition to a starred review from the American Library Association. The author will read a selection from her memoir and take questions from the audience.
