In partnership with Edgartown Books, The Carnegie welcomes Island historian and writer Thomas Dresser our intimate gallery setting for a reading of his newest publication A Travel History of Martha's Vineyard. A book signing will follow the reading.
Getting to the Vineyard has never been easy. From dugout canoes, to steamships, on-Island horse-drawn trolleys to man-powered barges, there have been all manner of transportation to navigate the island's plains and shores. The story of Vineyard transportation is the story of evolution of technology, of opportunity and necessity, of dependence and cooperative efforts. Join Mr. Dresser as he traces the changes in Island living brought about by these transportation innovations.
