Art Show: Collide & Scope

Knowhere Art is proud to present Collide & Scope, a group exhibition launching the opening of their third season featuring painting, installation, sculpture and mixed media work from seven BIPOC artists; Anina Major (she/her), Anoushka Mirchandani (she/her), Jaleeca Yancy (she/her), Lerone Wilson (he/him), Rain Spann (he/him), Tana Torrent (she/her) and Zahyr Lauren (they/them).

Collide & Scope invites you to the intimate journey of artistic creation. A kaleidoscope initially seems a simple tool but peering into the lens reveals a fragmented, colorful world. Learning an artist’s story and intention is similar. First, a vision and concept emerges. Then, the process and development leading to subsequent execution - an anchoring.

This show offers a tribute and restoration to a community processing collective traumas by presenting abstract, geometric and surrealist work exploring themes of connectedness to community and the Earth in contrast to bodily dissociation and isolation during COVID.

In the unmooring of sense of self from community during an era of social distancing and isolation, these artists dove ever deeper into their practice. The collision of societal disruptions unearthed vulnerable works, perspectives and pathways for the artists, director and curator to find one another.

This exhibition is organized by guest curator Sadaf Padder (she/her), founder of Alpha Arts Alliance, in collaboration with Valerie Francis (she/her), director of Knowhere Art. A percentage of proceeds will fund Grown in Haiti’s community center and artist residency in Jacmel, Haiti.
