In honor of Alzheimer's Awareness Month, join us for Activity Based Dementia Care with Mary Holmes M.Ed, MSc. The goal of this one hour presentation is to bring ideas from senior day programs and recreation's best practices to making a dementia life easier at home. Working with existing abilities and understanding the changes dementia puts on one's skills, the seminar will focus on developing a home leisure program for the care receiver and the caregiver.
The seminar will cover the six domains of habilitation - physical well-being, social, functional skills, perception, communications and behaviors. The presentation will cover helping paid caregivers find engagement with loved ones and promote a more inclusive way of thinking about living with dementia. Using best practices, articles, current research our goal will be for participants to feel that they have more tools to use when there seems to be nothing to do. There will be time for questions and sharing ideas at the end of the program.
