Starting April 26, the West Tisbury Library will host a five-week, in-person acrylic painting workshop series with Jennifer Burkin on Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. All supplies will be provided and all levels are welcome. Space is limited to 10 participants. Participants are asked to commit to all five sessions: April 26, May 3rd,10th, 17th and 24th. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up. Free and open to the public!
About the class: Each week we will look closely at a painting by a different well-known artist and discuss how to replicate the work using acrylic paint. Images will include landscapes, interiors, figures, and more. The focus will be on mixing colors and applying them in an expressive manner. There is no one right way to paint and the advantage of learning in a group setting is that you will learn from the instructor as well as your fellow students.
About the instructor: Jennifer Burkin has been an artist and an art educator for over thirty years. She lives in Chilmark, making art and teaching drawing, painting, printmaking and mixed media to both children and adults. Her own work focuses on images from her childhood, the natural world, as well as her black lab. During the winter of 2020, she designed a line of nautical-themed notecards that are for sale on the Island in more than 12 stores.
