Join Captain Kurt Peterson on Thursday, April 17, as he shares the story of his beloved wooden catboat, "Tigress" — a familiar sight in Vineyard waters, often recognized by her striking, hand-painted American flag sail.

A lifelong admirer of wooden boats and maritime history, Captain Kurt weaves together art, sailing, and storytelling in a way that brings the past to life. A 2009 graduate of Wheaton College with degrees in art and music, he has exhibited his work at the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown. His vibrant, expressive art celebrates a time when sailing vessels powered American commerce and embodied the pride of coastal communities. "Tigress" isn’t just a boat — she’s part of the Island’s enduring maritime heritage, with a tale all her own.
